Skagen Salmon is of course located in scenic Skagen. We have a view of the dunes, enjoy the unique light and follow the sea from a calm summer day to a violent January storm.
The proximity to the sea is essential for the intake and circulation of water for the salmon. The biogas plant, which converts sludge from our filtration into clean energy, is located across the road. North Jutland has a large and proud fishing industry with skills and facilities that we benefit from.
So we can act and produce locally to a great extent.
A sustainable transformation
Skagen Salmon's primary owners are Petri Holding and Astrid Fiskeri. Both are companies with close ties to Skagen.
A gigantic volume of salmon is farmed in sea farms, primarily in Northern Europe and South America. There are a number of environmental issues with this traditional farming method that can be eliminated or significantly reduced by farming salmon on land instead.
It is this transformation of a very large industry in a more sustainable direction that is the driving motivation for the owners of Skagen Salmon. The goal is to create a new lighthouse in salmon farming that can inspire others to follow suit.
In the long term, this will ensure both cleaner food for consumers and a better marine environment for the benefit of all.
