Skagen Salmon is ASC certified
The ASC certification is issued by an independent non-profit organization, whose full name is Aquaculture Stewardship Council Limited. Skagen Salmon has two ASC certificates; one covering salmon farming and one covering Chain of Custody.

Through the ASC label, aquaculture companies commit to ASC standards, which guarantee that fish are farmed in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner.

To become certified, all processes in your farming company are reviewed and evaluated by ASC. Certification includes a commitment to protect the aquatic environment and reduce the use of chemicals and antibiotics.

We support WWF
The ocean covers more than two-thirds of the Earth's surface and is home to some of the world's most spectacular ecosystems. It regulates our climate, produces half of the oxygen we breathe and helps create rain and fresh water.

For centuries, we have thought of the ocean as an inexhaustible source. Today, we know that around 60 percent of known fish stocks are fully fished and 34 percent are overfished. At the same time, the sea also suffers from raw material extraction, pollution and nutrient discharges.

Unfortunately, Danish waters are no exception - they are also under pressure, both in terms of fish stocks and fish habitats. Soon the sea will no longer be able to breathe.

WWF has launched a wide range of initiatives for a better marine environment, which is why Skagen Salmon has chosen to become a corporate sponsor of WWF.

12: We will ensure sustainable consumption and production through the following targets

12.3 Halve global food waste per person (in production and supply chains)
12.4 Manage chemicals and waste responsibly (circularity)
12.6 Motivate companies to act sustainably (reporting)
14: We will conserve and ensure the sustainable use of the world's oceans and their resources through the following targets
14.1 Reduce marine pollution
14.2 Protect and restore marine ecosystems

We recognize that our actions today shape the world we live in tomorrow. Sustainability is not a static achievement, but a continuous improvement process towards which we constantly seek innovative solutions to improve our environmental profile.

Parasite declaration
At Skagen Salmon, our salmon is guaranteed free from sea lice and other parasites that are otherwise a well-known problem in traditional ocean farming, our parasite declaration is based on the following documents:
icon
The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's declaration of exemption from freezing requirements
icon
Veterinary opinion on the exclusion of parasites in RAS systems
icon
Declaration from feed supplier on heat treatment of feed
For the salmon, a life without parasites means a less stressful life and higher well-being. For the consumer, parasite-free salmon is guaranteed to be exempt from freezing requirements - meaning it can be consumed raw without having been frozen first, which is of great importance for the quality of sushi and sashimi servings.
